Captain Keny Lewis is the owner and operator of Captain Ken’s Wild Wings, offering premier duck hunting and fishing charters based out of Port Clinton, Ohio. A lifelong outdoorsman and U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain, Ken brings decades of experience, grit, and passion to every trip on Lake Erie. After leaving the Army in 1990, Ken started a career in repair work and soon discovered the thrill of waterfowl hunting on Lake Erie. One duck hunt was all it took — he was hooked. He started hunting more often, bought his first boat, and sharpened his skills. Encouraged by his uncle, he earned his Coast Guard license, began writing for Ohio Sportsman Magazine, and spent every vacation day running hunts on the water. By 1996, he expanded into fishing charters, eventually running 30–50 trips a year from his 27’ SportCraft. In 2005, Ken was called back to military service, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan while pastoring and continuing to grow his guide business with the help of trusted captains back home.Fishing has been a part of Ken’s life since childhood — but duck hunting came after the military. Action-packed day from the get-go! I took Adam and their crew out for an 8-hour trip on Lake Erie this fall, launching from Anchors Away Marina in Port Clinton, OH. We set out early in the morning under partly cloudy skies, with a chance of storms later in the day. The water conditions on Lake Erie were favorable as we headed out with Captain Ken's Wild Wings for some Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass action.
Once the stage was set, we focused on targeting American Yellow Perch around some productive wrecks. I employed a mix of techniques to give us the best shot at success. We started with some trolling to cover water and locate active fish. When we found promising spots, we switched to jigging and bottom fishing to really work the structure. The crew got into the rhythm quickly, and we managed to boat some nice Yellow Perch throughout the day. While we didn't land any monsters this time, the steady action kept everyone engaged and having a great time on the water.
As the day progressed, we explored different wrecks and adjusted our approach based on what the fish were telling us. The partly cloudy conditions actually worked in our favor, providing some cover without completely shutting down the bite. We kept an eye on the weather, ready to head in if those possible storms materialized, but luck was on our side and we were able to fish the full day. We wrapped up the trip with smiles all around, having put some nice Yellow Perch in the box and created some great memories on Lake Erie.

We launched from Anchors Away Marina in Port Clinton, OH, bright and early. The morning started off a bit cloudy, but we knew it was going to clear up as the day went on. Once the stage was set, we headed offshore to target those Lake Erie walleye. We mixed it up with a variety of techniques - trolling, casting, and bottom fishing. Each method had its moment, but trolling seemed to be the ticket for the day. We worked the area thoroughly, adjusting our approach based on what the fish were telling us. The crew got the hang of it quickly, and before long, we had some action on our lines. The highlight of the day was an 18-inch walleye that put up a great fight. It's always a thrill when a good-sized fish decides to test your skills.
As the afternoon rolled in, the skies started to clear just like the forecast promised. The change in weather seemed to perk up the bite a bit. We kept at it, working different depths and speeds to dial in what the walleye wanted. By the time we wrapped up, Keaton and their crew had gotten a real taste of what Lake Erie walleye fishing is all about. We didn't land a monster, but the steady action and that nice 18-incher made for a solid day on the water.

What a great day on the water, couldn't ask for more action! As spring settled in over Lake Erie, I had the pleasure of taking Emily out for a morning of offshore fishing near Port Clinton, OH. The day started early with cloudy skies, but that didn't dampen our spirits as we set out at dawn. We launched from East Harbor State Park, ready to tackle whatever the lake had in store for us.

Once the stage was set, we got down to business, employing a variety of techniques to maximize our chances. We started with some trolling, covering good ground and searching for active fish. As the morning progressed, we switched things up, casting crankbaits to target different depths and structures. When that slowed down, we tried our hand at bottom fishing with live bait, hoping to entice any lurking fish. Despite our efforts and the variety of methods we used, the fish weren't particularly cooperative on this outing. But that's fishing - some days they bite, some days they don't. We didn't stick a trophy on this run, but every cast and minute on the water was worth it. The experience of being out on Lake Erie, feeling the gentle rocking of the boat, and enjoying the cloudy but calm day made for a memorable trip.
