Captain Keny Lewis is the owner and operator of Captain Ken’s Wild Wings, offering premier duck hunting and fishing charters based out of Port Clinton, Ohio. A lifelong outdoorsman and U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain, Ken brings decades of experience, grit, and passion to every trip on Lake Erie. After leaving the Army in 1990, Ken started a career in repair work and soon discovered the thrill of waterfowl hunting on Lake Erie. One duck hunt was all it took — he was hooked. He started hunting more often, bought his first boat, and sharpened his skills. Encouraged by his uncle, he earned his Coast Guard license, began writing for Ohio Sportsman Magazine, and spent every vacation day running hunts on the water. By 1996, he expanded into fishing charters, eventually running 30–50 trips a year from his 27’ SportCraft. In 2005, Ken was called back to military service, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan while pastoring and continuing to grow his guide business with the help of trusted captains back home.Fishing has been a part of Ken’s life since childhood — but duck hunting came after the military. It’s that unique path that defines his approach today: focused, disciplined, and adaptable. What sets Captain Ken apart from other guides in the region is simple — time, preparation, and adaptability. Drawing from his military background, Ken brings a strategic mindset to every outing. One for the books today! Bill and I headed out for our fall morning hunt under partly cloudy skies, perfect conditions for what turned into an outstanding waterfowl adventure with Captain Ken's Wild Wings and our Morning Duck Hunt Adventures on Lake Erie.
Once the stage was set, we worked a combination of pass shooting and decoy hunting that really paid off. The mallards were moving well in the early morning hours, and we managed to connect on several along with a nice Canada goose that came in just right. Port Clinton's location gives us that perfect setup where the birds naturally funnel through, making our decoy spread and shooting lanes work like a charm.
The partly cloudy conditions kept the birds active throughout our hunt, and we even got some solid jump shooting opportunities when we moved to a different spot. Bill put together a mixed bag that any waterfowler would be proud of, and we wrapped up the morning with smiles all around.
